3 Injured, 2 Dead in Multi-Vehicle Accident on 5 Freeway

California Highway Patrol reported a fatal multi-vehicle crash Monday night, June 11, on the I-5 Freeway at or near Osbourne Street. Three vehicles were reportedly involved in the wreck that claimed the lives of a Lakewood man, 23, and a South Gate woman, 24. Both victims died from their injuries sustained in the three-vehicle crash. The accident that happened around 8:40 p.m. in the southbound lanes also resulted in the injuries of at least three other people.

According to reports, 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer had become disabled in the middle of the number 1 lane for unspecified reasons. That is when a 2017 Subaru WRX rear-ended the vehicle and turned into the way of a 2014 Nissan Rogue SUV that was driving in the number 3 lane. Those vehicles continued to crash into two other vehicles. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, and three others were injured, one of which was hospitalized while the other two suffered relatively minor injuries. Furthermore, a 65-year-old man was evaluated for injuries at the scene, but his condition is unknown at this time.

Fatal Crash Investigation in Pacoima

Currently, it is not known who may be held liable for this collision. A defect to the disabled car could possibly find the vehicle manufacturer liable, although the reason for the car being disabled is uncertain. An extremely detailed investigation will determine exactly who was at fault for the fatal crash. Our deepest condolences go out to all the victims and their families in this tragic and trying time.

Whether the car manufacturer or one or more drivers are found to have been negligent, there will likely be a personal injury or wrongful death claim to follow. Of course, taking legal action is always the sole discretion of the victims. The most important thing is for all those involved to remain focused on their health and recovery.
