Los Angeles, CA – Two Injured in Explosion Following Gasoline Leak in Tanker Truck
Los Angeles, CA (March 17, 2019) – On Sunday, March 17th, a gasoline tanker truck sprang a leak and caught fire near 216 Slauson Avenue, which triggered an explosion that sent two people to the hospital. The smoke from the explosion was visible all across Los Angeles.
The blast tore through storm drains and also sent manhole covers into the air, stated Fire Department officials.
Firefighters responded to multiple reports of a gaseous smell. They arrived on the scene to find the tanker totally engulfed and were then were forced back by the force of the explosion. It took dozens of firefighters took to douse the blaze emanating from the tanker, just south of downtown.
Two victims were hospitalized, one with serious injuries.
The smoldering tank ended up on its side, with one end of it blown wide open. The tank was able to hold up to 9,000 gallons of fuel.
The leak and explosion are currently under investigation.
