San Diego, CA (March 24, 2019) – An accident involving two cars occurred early Saturday morning that took the life of one person and injured three others along the southbound lanes of SR-163 in Balboa Park.

California Highway Patrol responded to the scene of this fatal accident. According to CHP officers, the crash occurred around March 23rd at 2:30 a.m. on the Cabrillo Highway, just south of the Quince Street overpass.

The crash happened when the driver of a Lexus sedan rear-ended a Mazda sedan. Both cars were knocked off the highway and one of the autos fell down an embankment into a ditch.

The drivers of both vehicles involved were also treated for injuries.

Investigators are still attempting to determine the cause of the accident.

We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the victim who passed away as a result of this fatal accident. Our thoughts are with them at this time. We also send healing thoughts to the victims of this crash who were injured, who we hope will have speedy recoveries.

Ride-Sharing Is Convenient. But What Happens If There’s an Accident?

Uber and other ride-sharing services are more and more popular these days. Fifteen percent of adults in the United States have utilized a ride-sharing app and of those, 17% use one on daily or weekly.

What you do if you are involved in a rideshare crash? Who pays in a ride-sharing accident? Ride-sharing companies do have rules regarding this, but there’s still a ton of gray area. Generally speaking, financial obligation should come from the insurance company of the at-fault driver – whether it’s the Uber or Lyft driver or the other driver involved in the accident – or from Uber or Lyft’s own car insurance policy. Uber and Lyft carry third party liability insurance coverage.

After the accident, you should hire a lawyer, because laws are continually changing regarding this type of incident. Navigating the system will definitely require a professional, and it can even more difficult if you are seriously hurt.
