California Car Accident Laws

After a motorcycle accident in California, drivers must report the crash to the authorities. When a law enforcement officer comes to the scene of your crash, he or she will prepare a written report that states what actually happened to cause the accident. You also need to report the crash to the DMV if anyone involved in the accident was injured, killed in the accident, or the crash resulted in property damage of more than $750. Even if your car accident was minor. you should still report it to your insurance company.

In the midst of your car accident claim, you should make sure to do the following:

  • Do not argue with the other party involved in the crash.
  • Only tell your story to the police and your insurance company.
  • Do not sign any statements regarding fault or promise to pay for anything.
  • Share your driver’s license, vehicle registration card, and address with the other driver and get their information in return.

If you want to find out what your options for holding the at-fault driver financially responsible, retaining the services of an attorney could have a big impact on your situation.
