Orange County, CA-UPDATE Teen Killed in Collision on the 405 Freeway
Orange County, CA (April 3, 2019)- A 13-year-old boy was killed in an accident with a suspected drunk driver on Saturday at around 11 pm. The crash, which injured nine people in total, took place in the Fountain Valley area of Orange County on the 405 Freeway.
Michael Houghton and Gael Anders Houghton of San Marcos were traveling with their three children for a family visit when their 2015 Honda Odyssey ran out of gas in the northbound carpool lane of the freeway. A 2014 Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by a 24-year-old from Tustin hit their vehicle from behind. Following the initial crash, a 2019 Toyota Tacoma struck the back of the 2014 Toyota pickup. Subsequently, two more vehicles became involved in the crash.
The California Highway Patrol identified the boy killed in the crash as Bryce Houghton. The Houghton family, as well as four occupants of the 2019 Toyota Tacoma truck, were transported to UC Irvine Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the 2014 Toyota pickup sustained major injuries; he was arrested under suspicion of drunk driving.
A Go Fund Me page has been created for the Houghton family.
Our thoughts are with the Houghton family at this time. We wish them peace and comfort as they heal.
DUI Drivers in California
Drunk or high drivers cannot drive at the level of alertness necessary to keep everyone on the road safe. In fact, when compared with sober drivers, drunk drivers are 11 times more likely to crash into other vehicles. Speeding, blurry vision, and many other effects of drunk driving add up to drivers who should not be on the road in the first place.
