Santa Maria CA- Highway 166 and Black Road Site of Serious Injury Crash

Santa Maria, CA (April 12, 2019)- California Highway Patrol Officer Efrem Moore reported a crash on Highway 166 near Black Road at approximately 12:20 pm Thursday.

According to the CHP report, a Toyota Corolla and a 1999 Chevrolet C3500 catering van crashed. 73-year-old Morro Bay resident, Michael Fort was driving west on Highway 166 in the Toyota. He veered left for unknown reasons, turning to face southbound in the westbound lanes. This caused 65-year-old Santa Maria resident, Guillermo Rodriguez, who had been behind Fort before the turn, to crash his Chevrolet.

Fort sustained critical injuries in the crash. Medical personnel transported him to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Rodriguez was reportedly uninjured.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the CHP.
