Safety on California’s Railroad Tracks
According to the US Department of Transportation’s Federal Railway Administration, in 2015, 28% of train accidents in the US were caused by track-related factors, 14% by equipment issues, 3% by signal-related factors, and 38% by human-related factors. While the Federal Railway Administration provides thorough training for their employees, everyone must share the responsibility for keeping railways safe.
It is nearly impossible for a pedestrian to survive an accident on railroad tracks. However, this type of accident occurs more frequently than many people realize.
