Barstow, CA- Wrong-Way Crash With Semi on I-40 Near the Marine Corps Logistics Base
Barstow, CA (April 23, 2019)- The Interstate 40 Freeway close to the off-ramp for the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Barstow was the scene of a crash between a large truck and a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban.
The crash took place on Saturday at approximately 5:22 am when the Suburban, which was traveling westbound in the eastbound No. 2 lane, hit a 2018 Freightliner truck head-on.
The driver of the Suburban died at the scene, while the semi-truck driver, a 40-year-old Springfield, MO resident, escaped without injuries. A 55-year-old passenger in the truck’s sleeper compartment experienced minor injuries.
The impact of the crash caused the truck to land facing southeast on the side of the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40. The truck landed on its wheels, while the Suburban was pushed backward around 100 feet, landing on its left side and facing westward in the eastbound No. 1 lane.
Further details, including the deceased driver’s name, are unknown at this time.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the person who lost his or her life in this accident. Our thoughts are with them and everyone who sustained injuries or was affected by this incident.
Head-On Collisions on California’s Interstates
Head-on collisions can occur due to any number of reasons. Often, a combination of factors adds up to this type of crash. However, one key factor appears more frequently than others in a head-on crash: alcohol or other drugs.
When someone drives drunk, they cannot drive with the degree of attention and precision necessary to stay safe on the road. Blurred vision, poor judgment, and a feeling of being invincible all result from drunk or high driving.
If you’ve been hurt in a head-on collision, or if you’ve lost a loved one in this type of crash, a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit may be appropriate.
