Ukiah, CA – Pedro Mendoza and Gabriela Garcia Injured in Head-On Crash on Hwy 20
Ukiah, CA (April 29, 2019) On the morning of April 29th, a head-on crash occurred on Highway 20 near Scotts Valley Road. The reports state that a 28-year-old named Gabriela Garcia was driving a black 2011 Nissan Altima on the highway when her vehicle somehow veered off into the opposite lane. She crashed head-on with a 2006 Dodge Dakota driven by 30-year-old Pedro Mendoza.
When the paramedics arrived, they found both drivers injured at the scene. Garcia was initially trapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated. When they removed her, they found her unresponsive and suffering from major injuries. An emergency helicopter flew her to a hospital in Solano County for immediate treatment. An ambulance took Mendoza to a hospital in Lakeport for treatment of moderate injuries. He claimed to feel pain throughout his entire body.
Authorities are investigating the accident to determine what caused Garcia’s car to veer across the double yellow line. So far, they have arrested Garcia on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Our thoughts are with Pedro Mendoza and Gabriela Garcia and their families at this time. We hope that they will be able to fully recover from the injuries they sustained in this terrible accident.
Head-On Collisions in California
Drivers who are under the influence are 10 times more likely to be involved in an accident than drivers who are sober. Alcohol impairs vision and slows down the body’s ability to react to the environment. Therefore, drivers are not as alert as they should be and are more likely to speed, veer into opposite lanes, and rear-end other vehicles.
