Phelan, CA- Phelan Rd and Vinton Rd Scene of Fatal Monday Morning Crash

Phelan, CA (May 7, 2019)- The California Highway Patrol and the San Bernardino County Fire Department were called to the site of a head-on collision on Monday at around 2:53 am.

The crash took place on Phelan Road and Vinton Road, where a white 2012 Hyundai Sonata was found to have collided with a gray 1992 Mazda pickup.

Reports stated that the crash occurred when the Mazda drove westward in the eastbound lanes, crashing head-on with the Hyundai and sustaining serious front-end damage.

The Mazda driver, a 23-year-old Phelan man, died at the site of the crash. His name has not been released pending family notification.

The Hyundai driver, a 22-year-old Pinon Hills resident, suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Due to the accident, Phelan Road was closed for at least two hours, with traffic redirected to the shoulder of the road.

The CHP asks any witnesses to the crash to call them at 760-241-1186.
