San Diego, CA- Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash With Box Truck on I-805 Near El Cajon Blvd

San Diego, CA (May 7, 2019)- The California Highway Patrol reported a fatal accident on the 805 Freeway near El Cajon Boulevard at approximately 12:50 am on Monday.

The early morning crash involved a collision between a 2014 Kia Optima and a 2007 GMC box truck.

Following this crash, the 56-year-old box truck driver and the 31-year-old Kia driver got out of their vehicles and walked into the lanes of the highway. Subsequently, a 28-year-old driver in a 2016 Mercedes-Benz hit both the Kia and box truck drivers.

The Kia driver passed away at the site of the crash. The other two drivers, as well as a 29-year-old passenger in the Mercedes, received minor injuries.

The injured were taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital for treatment.

In order to begin an investigation into the crash, the southbound lanes of the 805 Freeway were closed until 6:30 am.
