Knight’s Landing, CA- 3 Killed, 1 Injured As Drunk Driver Plows Into a Home on CA-113

Knight’s Landing, CA (May 9, 2019)- A DUI driver crashed his Chevrolet Avalanche into a trailer home in which a family was sleeping, killing three people and causing major injuries to a fourth on Saturday, April 4.

The California Highway Patrol reported that 33-year-old Yuba City resident Ismael Huazo-Jardinez crashed into the trailer home while speeding near a curve on Highway 113 north of Jennings Court. The crash happened at approximately 10 pm.

The CHP report stated that Huazo-Jardinez was driving at such a high rate of speed that when he took the curve, his car veered from the road and hit the home. A 38-year-old man, a 34-year-old woman, and a 10-year-old boy were killed. An 11-year-old girl sustained major injuries and was flown to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment. As of Saturday, she was classified in critical condition.

CHP spokesperson David Hernandez noted that speed and alcohol played a role in the deadly crash. Huazo-Jardinez is currently facing charges of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Following his treatment for minor injuries, Huazo-Jardinez was booked in Sutter County Jail.

Neighbors who quickly came to the aid of the injured child remarked that they considered the curve in the road dangerous and that they recommended a guardrail be installed.

The family’s landlord identified the victims as the Pachecos and noted they were ideal residents, industrious farmworkers, and a loving family.
