Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Cajon Pass

Jon Wike Killed in Accident on Highway 138

Cajon Pass, California (June 22, 2018) – A motorcycle crash on Highway 138 caused the death of one individual on Thursday afternoon, according to local reports from Cajon Pass. The crash occurred west of Interstate 15 around 6:14 p.m.

Initial statements report that the motorcyclist had been driving a burgundy Harley- Davidson Electric Glide Classic motorcycle along the Highway 138 freeway on June 21. Melissa Donovan, the 26-year-old Montana woman driving a white 2018 Jeep Cherokee, had stopped at a 76 gas station and began pulling out of the station. She proceeded to enter the westbound lane of the road and into the path of the oncoming motorcyclist. According to Donovan, she did not see the motorcyclist approaching.  

The motorcyclist attempted to break and avoid the jeep but did so too quickly and ended up overturning onto the vehicle’s left side. The motorcyclist and the motorcycle proceed to collide with the left side of the Jeep.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has identified the motorcyclist as Jon David Wike, a 52-year-old resident of Palmdale, California.

The San Bernardino police were dispatched to the scene along with paramedics and other first responders. Paramedics discovered Wike in critical condition and immediately rushed him the San Bernardino Community Hospital, where, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

An investigation is ongoing into the cause and nature of the accident.
