Motorcycle Accident Fatalities In California
In California, motorcycle accident deaths have raised by 175 percent over the last 10 years. Despite safety programs within the state, it is hard for motorcyclists to avoid crashes that result in serious injury or even or death.
There are many drivers and riders on the road who never have an accident. However, life can be uncertain. Even well-trained motorcyclists have a higher risk of injury than automobile drivers. Motorcycles riders can be easily thrown during vehicle accidents. Also, motorcycles weigh much less than cars, so they are more vulnerable when roads are damaged with potholes or wet. Bikes are also smaller than cars, so they are difficult for other vehicles to see, especially in the blind spots. Finally, motorcycles require more skill to steer and control.
Unfortunately, motorcycle accident deaths keep on rising. To lower risks of an accident, California now offers a Motorcyclist Safety Program. Tips include proper lighting, wearing reflective gear at night and wearing a helmet. Wearing proper gear, like a jacket and boots, also protects the body from road burn. As well, a motorcyclist should be extra careful when changing lanes, passing a vehicle, or backing out.
