Oakland, CA- Commuter Bus Crash on Interstate 80 Kills One on the Bay Bridge

Oakland, CA (May 29, 2019)- A BART bus taking commuters across the Bay Bridge due to construction on the Transbay Tube collided with a box truck, resulting in one death and several injuries.

The accident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 4:28 am. According to the California Highway Patrol, the bus was struck in the back by the box truck east of Treasure Island in Interstate 80’s westbound lanes. The crash caused major front end damage to the truck and caused it to turnover in the right-hand lanes.

One person in the box truck was killed, while two others suffered injuries. The driver of the box truck was trapped in the damaged vehicle and required extrication by firefighters. Passengers on the bus also sustained injuries.

Emergency medical personnel transported the people int eh box truck to a local hospital, where one person soon passed away.

The CHP is investigating the crash.
