California’s Motorcycle Safety Facts
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, accidents involving motorcycles accounted for 15% of crash fatalities in California in 2017; in 2016, 14,400 people were hurt in motorcycle accidents in the state.
As California has more registered motorcycles than any other state in the country, motorcycle safety should be a priority for every California driver. Motorcyclists have the same rights as drivers of all types of vehicles. Even though motorcycles do not sit as high as other vehicles and lack the protective body that other vehicles possess, all drivers are required to stay alert on the road and be sure everyone– no matter what type of vehicle they drive– gets to their destination safely.
