Stay Safe On Your Motorcycle In California
Motorcycle riding is a romantic way to get around. There’s nothing like the open road on two wheels. But that excitement can be dangerous.
Find your happy place – Motorcycles aren’t great transportation if you are absentminded or angry. If you’re feeling distracted, emotional, sick or even tired, leave the bike in the garage.
T-CLOCS might just save your skin – T-CLOCS stands for Tires, Controls, Lights, Oil, Chassis, and Stands. It’s the safety inspection that you should always perform before you get on the bike.
Slow down – Excessive speed gives you fewer ways to correct for any driver error.
Show up – Be as visible as possible. Motorcycle stores often sell high-visibility safety vests with neon colors and reflective strips that stand out. Being seen is is what keeps you safe.
Be prepared for anything – Practice emergency braking and steering (where safe, of course). Repetition will help you train for a dangerous situation in a pinch.
Be extra careful in intersections – Be aware and wary as you proceed through and take in every part of the intersection.
Dress appropriately in gear – Motorcycle boots prevent exhaust pipe burns and painful toe strikes. Hands are protected with thick gloves, and your arms and legs will need gear like leather chaps and jackets.
Pay attention – Keep your eyes, your ears, and your mind, on the road.
Finally, wear a helmet! It can save your life.
Despite all of these precautions, accidents can and do happen. If you are injured in a motorcycle collision, consider retaining the services of a personal injury attorney to help you get the compensation you deserve.
