Ceres, CA- Mother and Children Dead After Car Crashes into House on Sam Ave
Ceres, CA (June 10, 2019)- According to the California Highway Patrol, a drunk driver crashed into a house on Sunday, leaving a woman and two children dead.
The CHP said that at approximately 1:30 am, 46-year-old Modesto resident Felix Ferdin crashed through a fence and a backyard in the 1200 block of Sam Avenue before hitting the rear of a duplex.
According to witnesses, Ferdin was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox at a high rate of speed on Holm Avenue when he ran through a stop sign at the intersection of Holm and Herndon Road. Ferdin continued to drive despite the road hitting a dead end, eventually crashing into the back of the house, which faces Herndon Road.
Ferdin sustained minor injuries in the crash. One crash victim, identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as Mari Luz Jacinto-Hernandez, was killed, as well as her 5-year-old daughter, who was pronounced dead after being transported to Memorial Medical Center. A 3-year-old girl was transported to Doctors Medical Hospital where she died from her injuries.
The Coroners office has not released the names of the girls who were killed in the crash at this time.
A 10-year old girl suffered major injuries and was taken by air ambulance to the UC Davis Medical Center. No information about her status has been released.
A person in the second half of the duplex stated that her home was damaged in the crash, but she and her family were uninjured.
The CHP noted that drugs or alcohol are likely factors in the cause of the crash. Ferdin was arrested and booked on felony driving under the influence and three counts of manslaughter. He is booked in jail with bail set at $10,000.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of Mari Luz Jacinto-Hernandez and her daughters. Our thoughts are with them at this time.
Our thoughts are also with the injured young victim at this time. We hope for a full recovery.
