Risks Of The Road For Motorcycle Riders In California
Motorcycle riders face risk, and after an accident, they can be seriously hurt because of the lack of protection as compared to other vehicles.
In two-thirds of motorcycle accidents, the driver of the other vehicle ignored the motorcycle rider’s right of way and caused the crash.
Motorcyclists are 26 times more likely to die in a crash and are 5 times as likely to be injured.
The fatality rate for motorcycle accidents has more than doubled since 1999.
Unique problems for motorcycle riders are:
- Visual Recognition: Motorcycles are smaller, and are more likely to be hidden by other vehicles, or by weather conditions. This is especially true at intersections, where 70 percent of collisions occur.
- Road Hazards: These issues include potholes, oil, puddles, debris, uneven pavement, and railroad tracks.
- Speed Accidents: The front end of a motorcycle can become unstable and begin to shake at high speeds.
- Riding Skills: A motorcycle requires skill and coordination.
If you are involved in a motorcycle collision and are injured, your next step should be to contact a personal injury attorney. They can review the incident and provide valuable counsel.
