Modesto, CA- Police Chase Ends in Fatalities on Yosemite Blvd Near 14th and D Streets
Modesto, CA (June 17, 2019)- Two pedestrians were killed in a police chase-involved crash on Saturday at Yosemite Boulevard near 14th and D Street.
According to the Modesto Police Department, a chase commenced when police officers located a stolen car at approximately 1:45 am. The driver of the vehicle fled from the scene at Briggsmore Avenue and Lakewood Avenue.
During the high-speed chase, individuals inside the vehicle began to shoot at the police vehicles. The stolen car finally crashed into a food truck and hit two pedestrians, who died at the crash site.
24-year-old Rodney Quiroz and 22-year-old Antonio Gazo, the driver and passenger in the stolen car, attempted to flee the crash scene on foot. However, police officers were able to apprehend and arrest them. They are held in Stanislaus County Jail for charges of homicide and attempted homicide.
During a search of the stolen vehicle, police found two guns.
One of the pedestrian victims has been identified as Vernalis resident Pedro Gil. A fundraiser has been established to aid his family, which includes children age 8 to 12.
