Bakersfield, California – Grandmother and Two Grandchildren Injured after Hit-and-Run Accident
Bakersfield, California (June 28, 2018) – Bakersfield local news and additional sources reported that a grandmother and her two grandchildren were injured as the result of a hit-and-run accident and alleged DUI near Monterey and Brown Streets. The incident took place at approximately 3:45 PM on Thursday, June 28, 2018. Authorities have not revealed any detailed information concerning the identities of the children, ages 2 and 6, or their grandmother at this time. Meanwhile, law enforcement has identified the hit-and-run driver as 21-year old Francisco Padilla.
Police confirmed Padilla was driving a reportedly stolen vehicle southbound on Brown Street when, for unknown reasons, he swerved off the road before plowing through a fence and into a residential home. At the same time, the children and their grandmother were spending time together on the porch when Padilla crashed into them. As a result of the impact, the 6-year old was pinned beneath the wrecked vehicle.
First responders utilized the Jaws of Life to free the trapped juvenile. Following the crash, she was taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment. As of now, medical personnel has stabilized the juvenile, but she has been listed in critical condition.
Meanwhile, the grandmother and 2-year old child were also taken to the hospital, where they received treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
Law enforcement added that Padilla had attempted to flee the crash site, but officers successful detained him. The culprit was arrested on multiple charges of felony, DUI, hit-and-run, and auto theft as a result.
We extend our most heartfelt prayers and most loving thoughts to the 6-year old child, as well as her friends and family, and wish her a swift and efficient recovery. We also extend our warmest prayers to the grandmother and 2-year old and wish them swift and efficient recoveries.
