San Jose, CA – Fatal Crash with Pickup Truck Claims Life of Bicyclist on Jackson Avenue
San Jose, CA – (July 16, 2018) – A bicyclist was reportedly killed in a collision with a pickup truck on North Jackson Avenue by Alum Rock Avenue on Sunday night, according to a local and credible news source. The fatal accident was the 27th fatal collision in San Jose this year as it took place at approximately 10:00 p.m.
The San Jose Police Department stated in a report that the accident involved the bicyclist and a 1990 Toyota pickup truck. The pickup was reportedly driving north on Jackson Avenue when it struck the bicyclist as it was getting near Alum Rock Avenue. The 59-year-old man on the bicycle was apparently attempting to cross Jackson Avenue at the time of the accident. According to police, the bicyclist was not at the intersection or in a crosswalk when the fatal collision occurred.
Paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after the accident was reported in order to assist the victim. Unfortunately, the bicyclist died from his injuries at the hospital a short time after being admitted. The driver of the pickup truck that struck the cyclist remained at the scene of the accident in order to comply with authorities and report the incident. No citations or arrests were made following the crash.
The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office has not released the name of the victim at this time. Likewise, neither the name of the motorist involved nor any other information regarding the events of this crash has been made available. Witnesses being urged to contact the San Jose Police Department. An investigation into the accident is currently being conducted in order to clearly establish fault.
