Mecca, Riverside County, CA – Motor Vehicle Crash on I-10 Freeway

Mecca, Riverside County, CA (July 18, 2018) – The Riverside County Fire Department reported a crash that occurred on the Interstate 10 Freeway and resulted in two injured individuals in the Mecca section of Riverside County. The accident reportedly took place at approximately 12:34 p.m., resulting in one critical injury just east of the Cactus City rest area.

The report released by the Riverside County Fire Department stated that a tractor-trailer had collided with a van in the westbound lanes of the freeway for reasons that are currently unknown. Two people were reportedly trapped inside of the van that was involved in the crash as a result of the impact.

Paramedics and firefighters immediately responded to the scene in order to extricate the individuals who were pinned inside the van, as well as to assist any other injured victims. One of the victims inside the van sustained serious, life-threatening injuries while the others’ wounds were classified as minor. The victim with the life-threatening injuries was reportedly flown to a local hospital by an air ambulance. The driver of the big rig was apparently unharmed. The events surrounding the cause of this collision are still under investigation.
