Fairfield, CA – Deadly Crash Claims Lives of CHP Officer Kirk Griess, and Jamie Manual on 80 Freeway

Fairfield, CA (August 10, 2018) – A motor vehicle accident on the Interstate 8 Freeway resulted in the deaths of a California Highway Patrol Officer and one other man on Friday morning, according to a dependable news source in Fairfield. The fatal collision was reported to have taken place just a little while after 9:00 a.m.

The CHP officer who tragically died due to the crash has been identified as Kirk Griess, 46, a 19-year veteran of the California Highway Patrol and a former member of the US Marine Corps. The second victim was identified as Jaime Bueza Manuel, 49, of Vallejo. A report released by CHP stated that Officer Griess was involved in a routine traffic stop in the westbound lanes of the interstate at the time of the crash.

The report said that Manuel had been pulled over on the right-hand shoulder of the freeway in his Saturn SUV. Officer Griess was outside the SUV communicating with Manuel when a Chevrolet pickup truck veered off the road and crashed into the vehicle, as well as Officer Griess and Manuel.

Medical personnel who arrived on the scene quickly rushed both victims to a local hospital, however, both were pronounced dead a short time after. The pickup truck driver was also reported to have suffered injuries and is currently hospitalized in unknown condition. Investigators are actively examining the events that led to this unfortunate incident.
