Fairfield, CA – Four Caltrans Employees Injured after Violent Traffic Collision on Westbound Interstate 80 near Manuel Campos Parkway

Fairfield, CA (August 23, 2018) – The California Highway Patrol reported that four Caltrans employees sustained injuries as the result of a violent traffic collision that occurred along the westbound lanes of Interstate 80, in the vicinity of Manuel Campos Parkway. The incident happened at approximately 11:40 AM on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. At this time, no detailed information concerning the identities of the people involved in the crash has been revealed.

Based on the initial CHP report, a Ford pickup truck was traveling along westbound Interstate 80 when, for indeterminate reasons, it swerved onto the right shoulder and plowed into the rear of a Caltrans utility trailer. The force of the impact flipped the van.

Prior to the accident, the Caltrans van had been parked along the right shoulder while five employees were removing litter from the interstate. Authorities confirmed one man had been seated in the van as the crash took place.

Sometime later, the single vehicle occupant received treatment at a nearby hospital and was ultimately released.

Medical personnel also affirmed the pickup truck clipped one victim, while two more received injuries from the impact.

Meanwhile, CHP officers revealed that distracted driving may have been a cause of the crash, as the driver has been suspected of using a cell phone at the time of the incident. No arrests have been made.

As of now, the California Highway Patrol has assumed authority over the ongoing investigation into the crash.
