Windsor, CA – DUI Suspected in Two-Vehicle Crash on Old Redwood Highway
Windsor, CA (September 2, 2018) – Officials from the California Highway Patrol reported a crash involving two vehicles that took place Saturday morning, September 1, on Old Redwood Highway and resulted in two people injured. One of the victims was later taken into custody on suspicion of DUI for causing the crash that transpired at approximately 6:00 a.m. near Shiloh Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, 47-year-old George Varela was traveling south on Old Redwood Highway when he veered into the oncoming lane. Varela continued in the opposite lane and subsequently crashed head-on into a northbound sedan. Emergency medical personnel were immediately called to the scene in order to assist the victims.
Varela along with the driver of the sedan were both quickly taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital to be treated for their injuries. Both victims were reported to be in stable condition at this time. Varela was later arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
No further information has been provided at this time, and neither the name nor current condition of the other victim has been released. The California Highway Patrol is currently in charge of the investigation into this incident.
Our sincerest sympathies are extended to the victim of this crash as we warmly wish for their full recovery.
California DUI Accident
Authorities investigating this accident are most likely working to provide further proof that Varela is at fault if he was indeed intoxicated at the time. In the likely event that Varela is found to be responsible for causing the collision, then the other victim will most likely be provided with grounds for a serious personal injury claim. Of course, the choice to file a claim for compensation is a very personal one that may only be decided by the victim.
