San Diego, CA – Fatal Car Crash Injures Four Firefighters on Interstate 5
San Diego, CA – (November 30, 2018) – A wrong-way driver was killed and four firefighters injured in a violent car accident that took place Thursday morning in San Diego. The deadly head-on collision was reported around 2:00 am on November 29th on Interstate 5 at State Route 94.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a San Diego Fire-Rescue truck responding to a hit-and-run accident when a Toyota Corolla traveling the wrong way collided head-on with the truck. Paramedics were dispatched to the crash site where they rendered aid to those who were injured in the accident. The Toyota driver, only identified as a man in his 30s, was found suffering from major injuries, and rescue crews attempted to revive the victim but sadly he died of his injuries at the crash site. His name has not been released pending identification and notification of family. The firefighters sustained injuries and were immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment. Deputies have reason to believe the man was stopped in traffic due to the pedestrian accident on 5th Street and Imperial Avenues when he decided to turn around and drive the opposite direction on Interstate 5. The Toyota was totaled and wreckages were strewn across the freeway. Police shut down the freeway while conducting an on-scene investigation. Lanes were expected to reopen before 5:30 am.
As of now, this accident is still under investigation.
Our prayers are with the family of the man who was killed in this tragedy. We cannot begin to understand the pain they are feeling as they cope with the sudden loss of their loved one. We wish them strength as they get through these trying moments. We hope the firefighters injured in this accident receive the medical care necessary to make a full recovery.
