Cottonwood, CA – Fatal DUI Accident on Interstate 5 and Main Street
Cottonwood, CA- (December 12, 2018) – One person was killed in a DUI crash Sunday morning in Cottonwood. The accident took place on South Main Street, just before 3 am on December 9th.
Per the initial report, 22-year-old Jacob Dahlem was driving a 2012 Mazda van at a high rate of speed down the 5 freeway. He then decided to exit the freeway Onto South Main Street, before hitting the left rear of a Toyota pickup, spinning the truck out of control and ultimately slamming into a guardrail and a fence. Medical personnel rushed to the crash site where they discovered a 59-year-old Whitmore man, was ejected from the pick-up truck and died at the scene. His name has not been released pending identification and notification of family. Police determined Dahlem was intoxicated when the deadly accident took place and was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into the Shasta County Jail.
As of now, police are still actively investigating this accident.
