Santa Maria, CA – Child Suffers from Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident
Santa Maria, CA (December 16, 2018) On the evening of December 14th, a hit-and-run pedestrian accident happened at the intersection of East Bunny Avenue and North McCllelland Street. According to the reports, a vehicle struck a 7-year-old child for unknown reasons.Unfortunately, the driver failed to stop at the scene and left the child there to suffer. When emergency responders arrived, they found the child suffering from a broken leg. They transported the child to Marian Regional Medical Center where he was then airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. The police are currently searching for the driver responsible.
We are sad to hear that a driver failed to help after striking a child. We hope the child fully recovers without any complications.
Pedestrian Accidents in California
Unfortunately, recent studies show that an average of 487 children are injured daily in the United States after being struck by vehicles. Most of the time drivers fail to pay attention to children even though California law requires them to yield to pedestrians no matter who has the right of way. Because this was a hit-and-run accident, it’s likely that the driver responsible is a criminal or was too afraid to face the consequences of their actions. Once the police arrest the suspect, a personal injury lawsuit can be filed to help cover current and future medical care.
