Bicycle Accidents in California
Studies show that over 1,000 bicyclists are killed every year in the United States. The leading cause of these fatalities is usually drivers not paying attention to their surroundings due to being on their cellphones, conversing with passengers, driving under the influence, or falling asleep at the wheel. Although bicycles aren’t considered vehicles, the same rules of the road still apply to them, which means they deserve the same respect as other drivers. Because their bodies are easily exposed to external harm, drivers should be extra cautious even if bicyclists don’t have the right of way.
The police are currently investigating this accident to determine if the driver responsible will be held partially or fully responsible. Once they conclude their reports, the deceased cyclist’s family may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit with the help of a California wrongful death attorney.
