Chula Vista, CA – Fatal Scooter Accident on 3rd Avenue
Chula Vista, CA (December 25, 2018) On the 22nd of December, a fatal scooter accident happened at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Quintard Street. According to officials, when the light on 3rd street turned green, a vehicle headed southbound and rear-ended a man riding an electric Bird scooter at around 4:00 a.m. The driver stated that the man riding the scooter, 26-year-old Esteban Galindo, seemed to appear out of nowhere. When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they performed CPR on Galindo until his pulse returned. They then transported him to UC San Diego Medical Center, but unfortunately, he did not survive his injuries. The driver responsible remained at the scene and cooperated with the police. Crews shut down the street for an hour as they investigated the scene.
We are sorry to hear that Galindo lost his life in this accident. We send our condolences to his family as they work through this challenging time.
Pedestrian Accidents in California
Recent studies revealed that about 50-traffic related fatalities occur every year in San Diego. Unfortunately, whenever accidents occur overnight or early in the morning, the cause is usually driving under the influence, driving fatigued, and/or using a cell phone. Driving under the influence and driving fatigued are equally dangerous because they both produce similar bodily effects. In fact, driving after being awake for 18 or more hours equates to having a blood alcohol level of .05 percent or higher. This effects the brain’s ability to function properly, which decreases reaction times and hand-eye coordination.
The police are currently investigating this accident to determine why the driver didn’t see Galindo on his scooter. Once they finalize their reports, Galindo’s family may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit with the help of a California wrongful death attorney.
