Oakland, CA – Woman Injured in Critical Pedestrian Accident
Oakland, CA (December 28, 2018) On the night of December 26th, a critical pedestrian accident happened in the 2900 block of High Street. According to the reports, a dark 1990s Ford Mustang struck a female pedestrian as she walked cross High Street at approximately 8:18 p.m. She walked within the marked cross walk when the vehicle hit her. Unfortunately, the driver did not stop to help the injured victim. When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found the woman lying in the roadway with severe head injuries and rushed her to a nearby hospital for treatment. The police are currently searching for the driver responsible.
We are relieved to know that the woman is alive, and we hope she fully recovers from her injuries.
Pedestrian Accidents in California
Recent studies indicate that out of the 682,000 hit-and-run accidents that occur each year in California, over 65 percent of those accidents cause pedestrian injuries or fatalities. Drivers who do not remain at the scene after striking a pedestrian are possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol or a criminal on the run. Sometimes drivers are under-aged or have an expired license, expired auto-insurance, or expired registration. No matter the reason, it’s unacceptable for any driver not to remain at the scene after hitting a pedestrian. If more drivers remained at the scene to call for help, more lives could be saved.
Once the police arrest the driver responsible, the injured woman could file a personal injury lawsuit to help cover current and future medical expenses.
