Oceanside, CA – 3 Injured and 3 Killed in DUI Accident on South Coast Highway

Oceanside, CA (February 6, 2019) On the 5^th of February, a DUI accident happened at the intersection of South Coast Highway and Oceanside Boulevard. According to the reports, a 19-year-old named Mason Fish was driving his 2007 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck down the highway when he ran a red light and crashed into a 2003 Mazda 6 sedan that carried six people.

When the paramedics arrived, they found multiple people injured and two people dead at the scene. The two deceased victims at the scene were 56-year-old Eloina Arango and 74-year-old Rufina Rodriguez. The paramedics airlifted Petra Arango to Tri-City Medical Center, where she later died. The three women who died were related.  They also airlifted a 13-year-old to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. Two other injured victims were transported to Scripps La Jolla Medical Center and another injured victim to Tri-City Medical Center.

The Oceanside Fire Department extricated the Mazda’s driver and a passenger who were both trapped inside.

The police arrested Fish for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance.  He was also driving on a suspended license at the time of the crash.

This accident is so tragic in that it was completely avoidable, if not for the reckless actions of the intoxicated driver.  We would like to offer our most sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victims.  Our hearts break for the entire family. What a tremendous loss.  We hope that all other injured victims from this accident will be able to make a full recovery.
