UPDATE: Santa Rosa, CA – Dominick Weaver Arrested for Hitting Hazel Cozet in Pedestrian Accident on Campoy Street
Santa Rosa, CA (February 21, 2019) – On the evening of February 16th, at approximately 5:14 p.m., a hit-and-run incident took place at the intersection of Campoy Street and Louis Krohn Drive. According to the reports, a vehicle struck a 7-year-old girl named Hazel Cozet and proceeded to drive off without checking to see if she was okay.
When the paramedics arrived, they found the child suffering from minor injuries after flying through the air and landing 10 feet away from the vehicle. They transported her to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Fortunately, a surveillance video from a nearby camera caught footage of the driver responsible for trying to hide his 2005 BMW 645i after striking the girl.
The police caught and arrested 29-year-old Dominick Weaver, who is facing hit-and-run charges for fleeing the scene. Weaver already had three warrants for his arrest when the police found him.
We are sorry to hear that young Ms. Cozet was harmed in this reckless accident, and we are hopeful for her expeditious recovery.
Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accidents in California
The leading cause of most hit-and-run accidents is drivers fearing the consequences of being caught for their negligent behavior, especially if they already have warrants out for their arrest as Weaver did. Criminals or drivers under the influence are more prone to flee the scene after striking someone because they believe it is better for them not to be accountable for their actions. They believe they will not get caught and will be able to maintain their freedom. However, for those that are caught, they face serious felony charges.
