San Luis Obispo, CA – Two-Car Collision at Highland Drive Intersection

San Luis Obispo, CA (February 27, 2019) – A San Luis County Sheriff’s Deputy was seriously injured in a two-car collision at the intersection of Highland Drive and Santa Rosa Street on Tuesday morning.

Authorities were called to the crash around 10:00 a.m. They found that the deputy was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated. He was moderately injured and taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

At the time, a female driver was allegedly headed southbound on Santa Rosa Street approaching Highland Drive when she made a left turn on a red arrow light and crashed into the front of a squad car. The deputy had been traveling northbound at the time.

The woman said that she confused the solid green light as a signal to turn even though the arrow to turn was red at that time. The female driver was treated at the scene.

Authorities still continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
