La Mirada, CA – Maria Chavarria Killed in Fatal Hit-and-Run on Escalona Road

La Mirada, CA (February 28, 2019) – Last week, a 68-year-old woman identified as Maria Chavarria was killed in an alleged fatal hit-and-run accident on Escalona Road, near the Escalona Elementary School, according to police.

At the time, Chavarria was walking with her two young grandchildren along the side of the street. They were suddenly struck from behind by a Toyota Camry, which proceeded to flee the area. The children, a young boy and girl, were injured in the accident. Their names were not released and their conditions are not known at this time.

Paramedics also rushed Chavarria to the hospital, where she was tragically pronounced deceased hours later. The man driving the Camry that struck them remains at large at this time.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the accident.
