Adelanto, California – Pedestrian Dies after Fatal Accident at Chevron Gas Station on Bartlett Avenue

Adelanto, California (July 9, 2018) – Local news sources reported that a fatal pedestrian accident took place by a Chevron Gas Station in the 11500 block of Bartlett Avenue. The incident occurred at some time before 9:30 AM in the morning on Monday, July 9, 2018. Authorities have identified the victim as 57-year old Jeffrey Irvin, an Adelanto resident. Meanwhile, the motorist who struck Irvin has been identified as 61-year old Adelanto local Harvey Fenstermaker, a double-amputee.

Based on a report from Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station, Fenstermaker was driving down Bartlett Avenue when, at some point, he attempted to hit the brake. Instead, the motorist stepped on the gas and lost control of his vehicle. As a result, Fenstermaker plowed his car directly into the front of the Chevron Gas Station and struck Irvin, who was seated outside the building.

Officials confirmed Irvin suffered severe injuries during the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment for his trauma.

Reports indicate Fenstermaker used his left leg, which has no foot, to power the car. Afterward, he was also hospitalized, but the extent of his injuries has not been disclosed. Authorities speculated he had not been driving with a license or proof of insurance at the time of the crash.
