The police are likely looking to determine if either driver was operating their vehicle negligently at the time of the accident. Investigators will be examining the incident for possible factors such as excessive speed, distracted driving, and intoxication. If the results of the investigation prove negligence on behalf of one of the drivers, there could very well be a personal injury lawsuit to follow. Many victims file a claim for compensation in order to recover the high costs that trail a sudden injury. Nevertheless, only the victim may be able to make that decision.
