Bakersfield, CA – Fatal Collision between SUV and Big Rig results in Two Deaths

Bakersfield, CA (July 12, 2018) – Local news sources reported that a fatal accident involving an SUV and a big rig truck took place along 7th Standard Road and Magnolia Avenue. The incident occurred at some time in the morning on Wednesday, July 11, 2018. Authorities have identified the deceased victims as 20-year old Hodari Toussaint Cooper Jr. and 13-year old Hakiam Cooper. No information regarding the identity of the truck driver has been released at this time.

As per the report, Hodari was driving a white SUV eastbound down 7th when, for indeterminate reasons, he swerved his vehicle towards the westbound traffic lanes and crashed into an oncoming semi-truck head-on.

Law enforcement officers sadly reported that Hodari sustained traumatic injuries from the impact and died at the crash site.

Simultaneously, Hakiam also sustained severe trauma and was transported to Kern Medical. Later, he succumbed to his injuries and died, as well.

Authorities confirmed that two additional victims required hospitalization, and the operator of the big rig was not injured whatsoever.

Meanwhile, the California Highway Patrol speculated that DUI was not a potential cause.

As of now, the investigation is ongoing.

Kern County Car Accident Lawyer

Authorities are working hard to determine what specifically caused the crash. Forensic teams will examine photographs of the crash site and inspect the SUV and the semi-truck for mechanical issues or system failure. Officials will also consider if drunk driving, drug abuse, negligence, distracted driving, or reckless behavior played any part in the events leading up to the crash. Authorities have not specified if the truck driver or the company that owns the truck will be held liable for the crash.

Depending on the final results of the investigation, the families of Hodari and Hakiam will have the legal rights to file wrongful death lawsuits against the guilty parties. Likewise, the other non-guilty victims will have the legal rights to file personal injury lawsuits. By seeking legal assistance, these individuals can receive compensation for a variety of issues including medical bills, vehicle insurance, painful injuries, funeral expenses, or tragic loss.
