Bellflower, CA – 31-Year-Old Alex Barragan Charged with Murder After Fatal Crash in Norwalk
Bellflower, CA (July 19, 2018) – The Los Angeles County District Attorney confirmed that 31-year-old Alex Barragan of Norwalk is being charged with two counts of murder following his involvement in a fiery wreck that claimed the lives of two people in Norwalk on Monday, July 16th. Barragan was apparently intoxicated at the time of the crash.
This is not Barragan’s first time driving under the influence of alcohol as he had already been convicted of a DUI once prior to the fatal collision. The DUI driver was scheduled to be arraigned in the Bellflower courthouse where he is also facing one count each of DUI within ten years of another conviction for the same offense. The Los Angeles District Attorney also added that Barragan id additionally charged with driving with more than a 0.08% blood –alcohol content (BAC) which resulted in injury within ten years of another offense for Driving Under the Influence.
The fatal crash occurred at around 1:00 a.m. Monday morning when Barragan allegedly caused a collision on the San Gabriel River Freeway. The crash claimed the lives of a 52-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman. Barragan was apparently driving a 2006 Infinity M45 sedan when he slammed into a disabled 1999 Ford Winstar that was occupied by the two victims.
A 22-year-old woman and 7-year-old girl were also in the van that was struck and reportedly suffered injuries, as well as the 22-year-old passenger in Barragan’s vehicle. Barragan’s BAC was 0.20 at the time of the collision, according to police.
