Berkeley, CA – Motorcyclist Severely Injured after Violent Traffic Collision along Interstate 80 Freeway near Gilman Street Off-Ramp

Berkeley, CA (August 20, 2018) – The California Highway Patrol reported a motorcyclist sustained severe injuries as the result of a violent traffic collision that took place along the Interstate 80 Freeway, in the vicinity of the Gilman Street off-ramp. Officers first logged the accident at approximately 4:20 PM in the afternoon on Sunday, August 19, 2018. At this time, no detailed information concerning the identities of the people involved in the crash has been revealed.

According to the CHP report, a blue 2014 Yamaha R3 motorcycle was traveling down Interstate 80 when, for indeterminate reasons, it collided with a gold Ford Taurus near the Gilman Street off-ramp. Sometime later, firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the crash site and found the motorcycle and rider had been thrown across traffic lanes.

Officials confirmed the motorcyclist sustained severe injuries during the impact. Later, the victim was brought to Highland Hospital in Oakland to receive treatment. Medical personnel have not revealed any details about the rider’s current physical condition.

CHP did not specify if the Ford driver was injured in the crash.

Afterward, authorities shut down Lanes 1 and 2 on I-80 as part of cleanup operations and initial investigations. Around 4:51 PM in the afternoon, officials reopened the freeway to traffic.
