Boyle Heights, CA – Five Injured in Alleged DUI Crash at Chicago and First Streets
Boyle Heights, CA (February 23, 2019) – An alleged drunk driver careened into another automobile in the area of Chicago and First Streets, injuring five people in the process.
According to witnesses, when the drunk driver hit the other vehicle, it sent it directly into the path of pedestrians and a person on a bike. The crash took place just before 1 p.m.
Police stated that the automobile caused the accident by running a red light causing it to T-bone a van. This sent the van into the path of two women who were on the sidewalk. The crash also created property damage because it wiped out part of a bus stop.
After hitting the van, the suspect’s vehicle then careened into a man who was riding a bicycle in the crosswalk, injuring him in the process. Afterward, the car came to a rest on Chicago Street.
Bystanders said that the driver of the automobile threw a beer out of the car before he and his passenger attempted to leave the scene. A bystander chased after the drunk driver and subdued him until the police arrived.
The officers involved in the incident claimed they could smell alcohol coming from the suspect and they took him into custody. A field sobriety test will be performed.
The people injured in the accident were the driver of the van, the two women pedestrians, the man on the bicycle, and the DUI suspect himself.
We send healing thoughts out to the injured parties involved and wish them a swift and easy recovery.
DUI Accidents in California
Drunk driving accidents are very dangerous and can lead to death or serious injury to the driver, passengers, or other automobile drivers that are hit. Many state laws proclaim that it is a felony DUI charge when the driver’s alcohol-related acts cause bodily harm or death to a victim.
If you are hit by a drunk driver and have evidence to prove it, you are able to claim damages in a civil lawsuit. You can also follow through with a wrongful death lawsuit if your family member passed away due to the actions of a drunk driver. An attorney can make your case by establishing the blood alcohol level of the defendant, proving that this caused the unsafe driving of a motor vehicle, leading to the accident. Evidence usually includes a police report and any witnesses.
