Cabazon, CA – Authorities Identify Tow Truck Driver Killed during Collision with Semi-Truck on Westbound Interstate 10 near Haughen Lehmann Way
Cabazon, CA (August 8, 2018) – Local authorities recently provided updated information concerning the identity of the tow truck driver who died as the result of a brutal traffic collision that took place along the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 in the vicinity of Haughen Lehmann Way. The incident was first logged a little after 9:00 AM in the morning on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. As of today, the California Highway Patrol has identified the victim as 50-year old Cabazon resident Jon Israel. Likewise, officials have revealed a semi-truck driver involved in the crash to be 52-year old Riverside resident Marco Rodriguez.
Based on the CHP log, Israel had been performing operations while on-duty at Stagecoach Towing, a local company. At some point, he had parked a flatbed tow truck along Interstate 10’s north shoulder and exited the vehicle, his driver’s side door open. Officials have confirmed that no local vehicles required towing services at this time, so officials are unsure as to why Israel would have stopped along the highway.
At the same time, Rodriguez was driving a semi-truck along Interstate 10 when, for indeterminate reasons, veered towards the north shoulder. Additional reports confirmed he was operating the truck at approximately 55 miles per hour prior to the events of the crash.
As Israel began to climb back inside the truck, Rodriguez plowed into the tow truck driver and the open door. As a result of the collision, Israel was thrown from the tow truck and on the slow traffic lanes on 10. At one point, another drive halted along the highway and removed Israel from the main road.
Medical personnel sadly confirmed that Israel succumbed to his injuries at the crash site.
Meanwhile, officers also affirmed that DUI may have been a contributor to the accident.
We extend our most heartfelt prayers and most loving thoughts to the family and friends of Mr. Jon Israel and wish them strength and peace of mind during this tragic, difficult time.
