Chula Vista, CA – Jogger Struck and Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver, George Joseph Espinosa Jr. Arrested
Chula Vista, CA. (July 10, 2018) – A fatal hit-and-run crash that took place on Sunday night, July 9, claimed the life of a teenage jogger on Lane Avenue. The victim, who has been identified as 17-year-old Leilani Magno, was struck by a driver on Lane Avenue Sunday night, according to a local news source, as well as the San Diego Medical Center. Reportedly, the suspect turned himself into the Chula Vista Police at approximately 3:35 p.m. Monday afternoon.
The fatal collision took place at around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday night. According to the report, Espinosa was traveling south on Lane venue in his white Chevrolet Silverado. Espinosa reportedly swerved off the road and onto the sidewalk, sadly striking the victim who had been jogging on the sidewalk at the time. Espinosa did not stop his vehicle and offer assistance to the victim but fled the scene instead. Magno was quickly rushed to Mercy Hospital, but she later died tragically from the injuries she sustained.
The Chula Vista Police Department is presently leading the investigation into this unfortunately fatal accident.
