Head-On Collisions In California
A head-on collision is when the front of a motor vehicle, collides with the front of another motor vehicle. These are serious crashes and have a higher rate of fatalities than other accidents.
Why are head-on collisions frequently fatal? Head-on crashes more often result in death because of the immediate nature of them – in other words stopping forward movement instantly. When two vehicles of similar weight and size going at around the same speed hit head-on, it is like smacking right into a brick wall.
Common causes of head-on collisions are:
- Going the wrong way
- Crossing the center line and crashing into an oncoming vehicle
- Passing incorrectly on a 2 lane road
- Falling asleep behind the wheel
- Speeding
- Speeding around a curve
- Not following road signs
- Driving under the influence
- Distracted driving
