Pedestrian Accidents in California
Recent studies show that about 32 percent of fatal pedestrian accidents happen at intersections. The leading cause is usually distracted driving, which is when drivers are using their cell phones, applying makeup, grooming, conversing with passengers, eating, searching for a lost item, and more. It’s more dangerous for drivers to drive distracted at night because it’s already difficult to see pedestrians, especially if they’re wearing dark clothing. All drivers have a responsibility to yield or stop as they approach pedestrians no matter what.
The police are currently investigating this accident to determine why the driver did not see Barner within enough time to yield or stop his vehicle. The police are also checking to see if alcohol or drugs were involved, or whether the roads were poorly lit. Once they finish their investigation, Barner’s family could file a wrongful death lawsuit with the help of a California wrongful death attorney.
