Corning, CA – Man Injured in Crash with Horses on 5 Freeway

Corning, CA. (July 10, 2018) – A man identified as, 23-year-old, Daniel Macias of Willows reportedly suffered critical injuries after his vehicle collided with horses that were crossing the 5 Freeway on Monday night. According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident took place at around 11:50 p.m. north of Corning Road.

Macias was apparently heading southbound on the freeway in a 2008 Hyundai at the time of the collision. Two horses were reportedly making an attempt to cross the road, not far in front of Macias’ vehicle, when he fatally struck one of the large animals in the side. Shortly after, someone driving a 2008 Chevrolet 2500, and who was following directly behind Macias, apparently hit and killed and the second horse. The Chevrolet went off the road and slid into a fence.

Paramedics arrived on the scene to find Macias with serious injuries. He was immediately transported to Enloe Medical Center to be treated. There were two people in the Chevrolet pickup truck who reportedly sustained minor injuries in the accident. An investigation into this accident may be looking to determine liability.
