Crash with Deputy Vehicle Leaves Motorcyclist Dead on South Coast Highway

Encinitas, (June 25, 2018) – According to local and reliable news sources, a motorcyclist lost his life Sunday following a motor vehicle accident on South Coast Highway 101, close to West D Street. According to reports, a deputy was heading southbound when he attempted a left-hand turn as the motorcyclist was approaching.

Reportedly, Sherriff’s Deputy Tammy Bennetts stated that the motorcyclist had crashed into the rear passenger side door of her vehicle and unfortunately, the rider passed away at the scene. The rear passenger side door of the deputy’s vehicle had been crushed and the window was shattered as a result of the impact.

The deputy along with another person reportedly attempted to perform life-saving procedures on the rider, but their efforts proved to be too late as the man died from his injuries. The man on the motorcycle who witnesses say they saw speeding has yet to be identified, nor have the statements of witnesses been investigated. It is currently unclear whether or not the deputy had been responding to a call, or if the motorcyclist was actually speeding. The events of this tragic crash are currently under investigation.
