Crockett, Contra Costa County, CA – Authorities Identify Bicyclist and Hit-and-Run Driver Involved in Fatal Accident on San Pablo Avenue and Dowrelio Drive
Crockett, Contra Costa County, CA (July 26, 2018) – Local news sources have provided updated information about the identities of the deceased bicyclist and hit-and-run driver involved in a fatal accident that took place on San Pablo Avenue near Dowrelio Drive. The incident happened around 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2018.
Authorities have identified the fatality as 42-year old Christopher Rey Buang, a resident of Hercules, and the driver as 28-year old Kylie Derksen, a resident of Martinez.
According to initial police reports, Derksen had been driving a red Mini Cooper westbound along San Pablo in the direction of Merchant Street. Simultaneously, Buang was riding a bicycle directly in front of the Cooper, in the vicinity of the Dead Fish restaurant. Without warning, Derksen plowed into the rear of the bike, and the resulting impact ejected Buang onto the roadway.
Rescue teams later confirmed that Buang had died at the crash site despite the fact he had been wearing a helmet and riding gear.
As indicated, Derksen did not remain at the scene and attempted to flee. Police later arrested the Martinez woman on charges of vehicular manslaughter and a warrant of $100,000. She is currently being held in the Contra Costa County jail.
