DUI Wrong-Way Crash in Salinas Kills One, Injures 3

One individual was killed, and three others sustained severe injuries following an early morning DUI crash in Salinas, California.

The crash occurred early Sunday morning on Highway 101 near Airport Boulevard in Salinas, California. According to initial reports, the fatal accident took place around 2:32 a.m along the northbound lanes of the highway. The California Highway Patrol reported that a Chevrolet Trailblazer was seen traveling the wrong way at high speeds before causing a head-on collision with a Mercedes-Benz sedan. There were 3 people inside of the Mercedes.

As a result of the collision, the Mercedes was overturned, landing on its side and killing of the passengers. The name of the victim has not been released to the public, but he was described as a 19-year-old male, and it appears he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The two remaining people in the Mercedes suffered only mild injuries and have been identified only as 18 and 20-year-old males. They were transported to Natividad Medical Center to receive treatment for their injuries.

The driver of the Trailblazer has been identified as a 21-year-old female. She sustained serious injuries and was also transported to the Natividad Medical Center. The severity of her injuries remains unclear, and she has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Following the accident, a section of the 101 freeway was closed for several hours as law enforcement examined the scene and determined the nature of the crash. By 7 a.m., all lanes of the highway were reopened to the normal flow of traffic.
